Welcome to the Charleville School of Distance Education Website. Our school motto is ‘Divided by Distance, United by Voice’.
Charleville School of Distance Education was established in 1966 as a School of the Air with radio lessons being conducted from the Royal Flying Doctor Base. Students completed their instructional papers with the help of Home Tutors and Teachers based at the Correspondence School in Brisbane.
In 1989 the school officially became the ‘School of Distance Education – Charleville Centre’ and with a new building, some refurbished older rooms, in 1991, the Charleville School of Distance Education as we know it today was established. HF radios were replaced by telephones in 2001.
Teachers are responsible for one or two year levels from Prep to Year 10 in geographical groupings. Face to face field events such as camps, Inschool Weeks and Minischools, Cluster Musters and Swim and Sports Musters allow assessment, socialisation and enhanced teaching and learning to occur.
Students complete units of work, participate in daily on-air lessons and communicate through email and web-based ‘classrooms’ with their peers and teachers.
2009 will be my twelfth year at Charleville School of Distance Education. It has been and continues to be a wonderful learning experience.
We have a vibrant school community that strives to achieve the vision of ‘Excellence in education for all students attending Charleville School of Distance Education’. We seek to do this through the following values and beliefs:
Trust and Credibility
Effective Communication
Inclusivity and Diversity
Innovation and Flexibility
Support and Encouragement
Personal responsibility
Commitment to life long learning.
We are a proud State-run educational facility that has a dedicated staff and a highly supportive parent body that provides support and programs for students in rural and remote areas across Southern and South Western Queensland.
We invite your queries and visits to our website and our school.
